Hair Loss Transplant Risks

So you are thinking of a getting a hair transplant to cover up your bald spot? Well you need to consider the doctor who is going to do it, the procedure and the cost.

The Doctor – The hair transplant operation is considered a business, and is not recognized as a medical procedure that serves patients. Make sure you question your doctor who is going to perform this surgical procedure on your head, as to his qualifications. Many of the doctors who perform hair transplant operations, know as much about this procedure as you do.

The Procedure – There are many procedures out there that can be used to transplant hair on to your head. Such procedures as The Flap, Square or Round Grafts, Scalp Reduction, Linear or Line Graphs, Scalp Expanders, are just some of the transplant procedures that are performed.

Before you go ahead with one of these procedures, question your doctor on his experience with a particular procedure that you have selected to do. Also look at the results; some of these procedures may leave you worst off than when you started.

The one procedure that has been somewhat successful, is the follicular transplantation method. In this method, a strip of donor hair is removed from your scalp and then the donor area is stitched closed. The donor strip is then cut into units of one or up to four hairs and then surgically placed on your bald areas.

It is important to note, that in any transplant operation, your own hair is used as replacement hair.

Cost – The cost of a transplant operation can vary, but in all cases they are expensive. Lets take for example the follicular transplantation method.

The cost of the evaluation may cost around $ 200. This does not include any lab tests that may be needed. The actual cost of the procedure may cost as much as six to ten dollars per graft. There is usually a minimum fee ranging from $ 2,500 to $ 5,500.

With all this to be considered, you may want to look at an alternate way to stop your hair loss and re-grow your hair.
